ERRATA4
  • Refresh Phase recovers all cooldown-0 cards, not only Ability Cardspublisher
    RULING
"All cards at position 0 should return to your hand during the refresh phase not just ability cards. This is an error in the rulebook." Item Cards sitting at cooldown 0 therefore return to hand in the Refresh Phase exactly as Ability Cards do.

  • The Free Company Sheet overrides the rulebook on Free Company Trait costspublisher
    RULING
"p3 of both rulebooks states components override the rulebook in all cases in terms of conflicts so that gives the FC sheet precedence here and thankfully the sheet is correct." Where the rulebook's Free Company Trait descriptions (notably Scavenger and Field Medic) disagree with the Free Company Sheet, use the Sheet. The publisher confirmed the rulebook text is a print error that could not be corrected without delaying shipment.

  • "Rear" and "front" on Ability Cards always mean the target's arcpublisher
    RULING
"There is a error on some cards like backstab that seem to imply rear rather than rear arc. These should be overruled by this errata." Any Ability Card referring to rear, flank or front is referring to the *target's* arcs, measured from the target's facing.

  • Warbear "Swipe" should not reference the front arcpublisher
    RULING
"Yeah, its a error on the card. It should not say front arc." Resolve Swipe using the three hexes shown in the card illustration; ignore the printed "in your front arc" wording.

DESIGNER CLARIFICATIONS5
  • Ability Card effects are optional once one effect is performablepublisher
    CONTEXT
Players were unsure whether every effect printed on an Ability Card had to be carried out, and in what order effects could be skipped.
    RULING
"To perform an ability card you must be able to perform at least one of the effects on the card... If an ability has more than 1 effect such as move 2 then attack you can just do the Move 2 part and ignore subsequent effects if desired." Earlier effects may also be skipped: with a Move 2 and attack card, "you could choose not to move but then attack." Effects that are after-effects of an attack on the same row, such as knockback, cannot be declined separately.

  • Multi-target attacks that draw once still deal separate damage instancespublisher
    CONTEXT
Cards such as Piercing Arrow, Ice Spike, Chain Lightning and Hail of Arrows hit several targets but draw damage only once, and are not Area of Effect attacks.
    RULING
"Yes, these are separate instances of damage and are not added together." Each target's Defense is applied to its own instance of the damage rather than to a single pooled total.

  • Enemies choose a target and move one at a timepublisher
    CONTEXT
Groups of activating enemies raised the question of whether all enemies lock in targets first and then move, or resolve targeting and movement individually.
    RULING
"Enemies sequentially target and move. Example: Rat A, B and C activate. Rat A picks its target and moves, Rat B picks its target and moves, Rat C picks its target and moves. All Rats then attack sequentially (attacking together where the mob rules are applicable)." Each enemy therefore evaluates targeting against the board state left by the enemies that moved before it.

  • Melee Area of Effect attacks do not require Line of Sightpublisher
    CONTEXT
The thread's opening summary claimed melee AoE attacks could only target characters in Line of Sight; the publisher struck that line out when confirming the rest of the summary.
    RULING
Melee AoE attacks require no Line of Sight, so a character can strike enemies standing behind an obstacle: "you can imagine the halberd user reaching over the wall to get to those behind or a scythe head hitting an enemy on the far side of the tree." Ranged AoE attacks still need Line of Sight to the centre hex only, and that hex must hold a valid target unless the ability explicitly targets a hex.

  • Five Curatives per chapter is a hard cap that Herbalist cannot exceedpublisher
    CONTEXT
The Herbalist Free Company Trait grants 2 Curatives per purchase, which appeared to allow 10 Curatives against the Apothecary's stated maximum of 5.
    RULING
"Max is 5 per purchase as you have bought the whole shop." The cap of 5 Curatives per chapter is absolute regardless of the number of Apothecary visits or Free Company Traits held; Herbalist reduces the Iron cost of reaching the cap rather than raising it.

Q&A4
  • Running out of Encounter Stage Cardspublisher

  • Might deck running out in the middle of a drawpublisher
    QUESTION
If you must draw 4 Might Cards but only 3 remain in that deck, do you draw the 3, reshuffle the discards, and then draw the fourth?
    ANSWER
Yes. Draw the remaining cards, reshuffle that colour's discards into a new draw deck, and complete the draw from it.

  • When Injury Cards must be playedpublisher
    QUESTION
Must an injured Oathsworn take the first turn of the Oathsworn Phase in order to play their Injury Cards, and do Injury Cards Battleflowed back into hand have to be played again?
    ANSWER
No to both. Other players may take turns first; the Injury Cards only have to be the injured character's own first action of that Oathsworn Phase. An Injury Card that returns to hand via Battleflow does not need to be replayed until a new Oathsworn Phase begins.

  • An Oathsworn dying during the Story partpublisher
    QUESTION
When a character dies during the Story, when does the replacement join, which Permanent Token do they take, and what carries over?
    ANSWER
The replacement joins immediately at the point of Quick Leveling, so if the story text then grants a token the new character receives it. They are free to choose any Permanent Token rather than copying the rest of the Free Company. All items carried by the dead character are lost, but their Iron carries over, since Iron is treated as a shared purse rather than something on their person.

EDGE CASES3
  • An enemy with nobody in Line of Sight can still attack after movingpublisher
    SITUATION
An enemy has no valid target in Line of Sight, moves toward the closest Oathsworn, destroys an obstacle on the way and finishes its move adjacent to one or more characters.
    RULING
It attacks. "This can allow monsters to gain attack the closest Oathsworn who, had they been in LoS, would have been the natural target for an earlier step in the 'choosing a target' hierarchy." Interrupt cards may still be played to force it to change target once it is about to attack.

  • Attacking with the intent to miss is legalpublisher
    SITUATION
A player makes an attack they expect to miss — spending no Animus — purely to trigger Battleflow and collect a Combat Token from the Determination Rule.
    RULING
Legal. "Fully Legit thing to do. Thematically you could consider it as repositioning between attacks."

  • A large enemy knocked into another large enemypublisher
    SITUATION
Knockback drives a large enemy into another large enemy, or into a multi-hex obstacle, and it is unclear how many hexes of contact matter and which location takes the damage.
    RULING
Both large characters lose 1 HP regardless of how many of their hexes touch, and the same applies when a large enemy is knocked into a multi-hex obstacle. The location that loses the HP is determined by the North then West rule.
