Kanban EV
ERRATA2
Rulebook contradicts itself on your own Performance Goaldesigner
- RULING
- "Its a bit in revision by the editores. The rule is that you are not required to place a speech token in your performance card. But you are not allowed to place it in another card either." The designer added in the same thread: "You can never play a performance card and score another card in the same round." The rulebook's page 20 note ("you can only place a speech token in that goal") and the later passage ("You are not required to play a Speech token on your own played Performance Goal") are both partially correct — placing a token is optional, but if you play your Performance Goal that turn, no other card may be scored.

- RULING
- "there was an error in the Kanban cards caught fairly late, so it's likely that the images in the rulebook had already been created and there wasn't time to update this one." The Kanban order card shown in the rulebook's setup example does not exist in the physical deck; ignore the discrepancy and set up with the cards you have. (Note: the author qualifies his answer with "If I'm remembering correctly" and is the game's artist rather than its designer.)

DESIGNER CLARIFICATIONS27
Turn order at the end of a day runs top to bottom, Sandra includeddesigner
- CONTEXT
- Players were unsure whether Sandra acts before or after the players when she occupies the top-most workstation at the end of a day. Playthrough videos showed it both ways.
- RULING
- "You always play from top to bottom, does not matter whom, Sandra included."
End-of-week scoring is Sandra's Administration action and resolves before the Meetingdesigner
- CONTEXT
- When Sandra reaches Administration on the same day that the Pace Car triggers a Meeting, players were unsure which resolves first.
- RULING
- "Th end of the week scoring is Sandra action on Admin. So it takes place before the meeting."
AUTHOR: newrev (Vital Lacerda, designer)SOURCE: boardgamegeek.com(11 replies, 3 thumbs)DATE: 2021-02-13You must take at least one action in the department you move todesigner
- CONTEXT
- Because one Final Goal tile rewards having 3 or fewer certifications, players asked whether they could enter a department and deliberately take no action there to avoid advancing on its training track.
- RULING
- "You need to take at least one action on the department, but the tiles are only relevant to training."
Every Part placed on an Assembly line moves the conveyor beltdesigner
- CONTEXT
- Kanban: Driver's Edition closed an Assembly line when no Cars of that Model remained. Players asked how Kanban EV handles Cars running out and how Cars pushed off the Test Track behave.
- RULING
- "Every time you place a car part on the assembly line you are activating the assembly line and moving the conveyor belt. The cars are on the top and move with it... Any pushed out cars from the test track, due to the limit of 4 cars, will fill empty [spaces] on the assembly line."
AUTHOR: newrev (Vital Lacerda, designer)SOURCE: boardgamegeek.com(12 replies, 4 thumbs)DATE: 2023-02-08An Assembly line with no Cars of that Model is closeddesigner
- CONTEXT
- With all Cars of one colour already claimed, players asked whether Parts could still be placed on that Model's Assembly line.
- RULING
- "If there aren't any red cars on the line you cannot make any red cars. So the line is closed. You cannot place a part there."
Full Assembly spaces are emptied only at the start of your turndesigner
- CONTEXT
- If you fill an Assembly space during your own action and still have Shifts left, players asked whether the space empties immediately so more Parts could be added.
- RULING
- "B is correct." — you cannot put more Parts on that Assembly space, and therefore cannot add any more of that Model during the same turn. As stated in the same thread and unchallenged: you empty each full Assembly space at the beginning of your turn, not during it.
Passing during a Meeting does not remove you from itdesigner
- CONTEXT
- A player asked whether playing a Performance Goal counts as a Meeting action, and whether passing ends your participation in the Meeting.
- RULING
- "players can still return to the game after pass." The designer endorsed the in-thread explanation that Meeting actions consist only of passing or placing a Speech token — playing your Performance Goal is something you do before the action, not an action itself.
A Meeting ends only when every player passes consecutivelydesigner
- CONTEXT
- With three players, one passed, another acted, then the first passed again — players disputed whether the "all players pass consecutively" end condition had been met.
- RULING
- "Player A already passed before B, if B and C passes, the meeting is over." A player who acts after passing resets the consecutive count; a player who already passed does not need to pass again.
The Speech token you place during a Meeting doesn't count for its own goaldesigner
- CONTEXT
- For a Performance Goal that scores per Speech token you have, players asked whether the token being placed on that very card is counted.
- RULING
- "The one you used on the meeting doesn't count."
No Performance Goal card scores more than 9 PPdesigner
- CONTEXT
- A player computed 30 PP from Performance Goal card #31 by multiplying the per-item value by the 3x multiplier, and asked whether that was correct.
- RULING
- "No card scores more than 9 points."
The multiplier space caps how many items a Performance Goal scoresdesigner
- CONTEXT
- Performance Goal 30 reads "2 PP for each Part you have" but depicts a Parts Voucher, and players were unsure whether excess items beyond the multiplier count.
- RULING
- "You can only score 1,2 or 3 Part Vouchers. It depends on the card space where you place your speech token." The multiplier space you claim sets the maximum number of items counted, regardless of how many you actually hold.
Generic Speech tokens convert to your colour immediatelydesigner
- CONTEXT
- The rulebook says generic Speech tokens are exchanged for coloured ones after the Meeting, leaving players unsure whether generics can be played during a Meeting or stockpiled when their board is full.
- RULING
- "No. All generic tokens must be immediately converted to your color." Where your board has no free space, the designer added: "You can [keep them], they just cannot be used during the next meeting."
Sandra evaluates every player in the top certification stackdesigner
- CONTEXT
- When all players are stacked on the final certification space of the department Sandra visits, players asked whether only the bottom-most is evaluated.
- RULING
- "All players in the last stack are evaluated."
Sandra's penalty is always at least 1 PPdesigner
- CONTEXT
- A "6 minus your banked Shifts" shortcut was circulating in the thread as an easier way to compute the evaluation penalty.
- RULING
- "No, this is incorrect because If X > 5 you lose a point." The penalty is 1 PP, plus 1 additional PP for each banked Shift you have fewer than 5 — so meeting or exceeding 5 banked Shifts still costs you 1 PP, and the shortcut breaks down at 6 or more.
Performance Points can go below zerodesigner
- CONTEXT
- The rulebook does not say what happens when an evaluation would drop a player below 0 PP. Asked directly in 2025 how to handle it in a 3–4 player game, the designer answered plainly. Note that the same thread contains an earlier answer from him (2021-01-22) saying "You can't go below 0" — the later ruling supersedes it.
- RULING
- "Go lower."
Recycling is free at any point in your turn, but not during a Meetingdesigner
- CONTEXT
- Players asked whether Recycling can only be used at the moment a new Part is needed, similar to Parts Voucher tokens.
- RULING
- "You can trade parts on the recycling at any time during your turn." When a player added "except during a meeting, of course", the designer replied: "Correct".
AUTHOR: newrev (Vital Lacerda, designer)SOURCE: boardgamegeek.com(5 replies, 2 thumbs)DATE: 2021-05-15Parts Vouchers are spent when a Part is needed, never traded for Partsdesigner
- CONTEXT
- Players treated the Parts Voucher as a token that could be exchanged for a Part into their own storage.
- RULING
- "You don't trade vouchers for parts. You use the vouchers when you need parts on the Assembly line and on R&D."
The Part covered by a Parts Voucher comes from the supplydesigner
- CONTEXT
- Playthroughs showed it both ways — taking the Part from the general supply, or from the Parts available on the Logistics board.
- RULING
- "From supply." You are not limited to the Parts showing on the board.
You cannot discard or scrap Car Partsdesigner
- CONTEXT
- A player wanted to clear their storage by trashing Parts so they could collect more from the Warehouse and deny them to opponents.
- RULING
- "If you have only one space for car parts you can only take one part. You cannot pick up car parts and trash them just to screw other players. That is not how a factory works."
Claiming a Car requires a blueprint from your deskdesigner
- CONTEXT
- Players asked whether an Upgraded Design already moved to the side of the player board could be turned in to claim a Car in R&D.
- RULING
- "No, it must be a blueprint from your desk."
Tested Designs are Upgraded Designsdesigner
- CONTEXT
- Because separate Performance Goals reference "Upgraded Design" and "Tested Design", players repeatedly asked whether a Tested Design still counts as an Upgraded Design for final scoring and goal cards. The designer gave the same ruling in threads 2610841 and 2766486.
- RULING
- "You can only test upgraded designs." A Tested Design is by definition an Upgraded Design for which you also have a matching Car in a garage, so it counts wherever Upgraded Designs count.
An upgraded Design tile leaves the Car and moves beside your boarddesigner
- CONTEXT
- A player asked whether two or more of the same component could be placed into the same vehicle, since the rules appear silent on it.
- RULING
- "After upgrade you move the upgraded design tile to the side of your board." The tile is no longer available to receive further Parts.
Design tiles with no Car Part keep Cars claimabledesigner
- CONTEXT
- Each Model has one Design tile showing an "X" instead of a Car Part, and players did not understand why they would ever take it.
- RULING
- "If all tiles from one part are upgraded, the game make sure that you can still have one to take cars."
Every Design space is refilled at the end of the turndesigner
- CONTEXT
- The rules explain refilling the eight outer stacks from central, but not how many Designs are dealt back into the First Offices when they empty.
- RULING
- "At the end of the turn, all spaces must have one design, unless there aren't any tiles on the central deck."
Training-track end-game points require having moved on that trackdesigner
- CONTEXT
- In a 2-player game a player scored second place on a training track without ever advancing on it.
- RULING
- "You need to move to get those points."
Each Tested Design scores separately in final scoringdesigner
- CONTEXT
- With two Cars in garages each carrying the same upgraded Part, players asked whether the Part's value is scored once or twice.
- RULING
- "If you have 2 different tested electric motors, you score both."
Garage Bonus tiles obey the Golden Ruledesigner
- CONTEXT
- A Garage Bonus tile grants "Take a Design Tile in a future turn, gaining the benefit if any". A player took the Design and immediately used it to claim a Car from the Test Track.
- RULING
- "You cannot use the tile immediately. Golden Rule still applies. Meaning that you cannot steal the car."
Q&A4
In solo play, Sandra evaluates only the human playerdesigner-delegatedcommunity high-engagement
- QUESTION
- During a solo game, does Sandra also evaluate the Colleagues (Mr. Lacerda and Mr. Turczi), or only the human player?
- ANSWER
- "Correct, Sandra only cares about your performance." The Colleagues are never evaluated. The designer confirmed the answers in this thread with "Those are still the same rules."

- QUESTION
- In solo, how do the Colleagues choose which Performance Goal to put a Speech token on, and what do they score for it?
- ANSWER
- The Colleagues follow the human placement rule — if a card has no available space they move on to the next card. Mr. Lacerda scores as if he held the maximum of whatever the card counts, and Mr. Turczi scores as if he held one. On a card granting 4 PP per red car at a 2x multiplier, Mr. Lacerda scores 8 and Mr. Turczi scores 4. David Turczi stated in the same thread: "Anything albinoork says about any of my solo modes is the rule of law, until I say otherwise. He is my lead tester/developer on most of my projects, including this one."

- QUESTION
- What happens in solo when the department a Colleague's card selects is unavailable?
- ANSWER
- "If the selected department is not valid, (i.e. the Colleague's preferred workstation is occupied, or if the Colleague is already in that department), they select the next valid department cycling top to bottom."

- QUESTION
- The solo rules and the Colleagues' R&D cards omit the Pace Car arrow that appears on the main board, so does the Pace Car advance when Mr. Lacerda or Mr. Turczi claim Cars?
- ANSWER
- Yes — one space per Car claimed, exactly as for a human player. "David Turczi replied in the comments of the Heavy Cardboard solo playthrough that he meant for the pace car to move when the bots takes cars." Every subsequent reply in the thread agrees, and players note that omitting it stretches the game well past its intended length. (Note: the ruling is relayed second-hand from a video comment; there is no BGG post from Turczi in this thread.)

EDGE CASES1
Certification benefits are exempt from the Golden Ruledesigner
- SITUATION
- The Golden Rule prevents you from using a benefit in the same turn you gain it. Players asked whether a newly unlocked certification benefit is likewise deferred to a later turn.
- RULING
- "The certifications don't follow those rules." Certification benefits become usable as soon as you are certified, unlike other gained bonuses. (The surrounding thread concerns the Speedcharger module; only the base-game certification clause is recorded here.)
