  • Guess counts even if spymaster wasn't targeting that wordcommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
If an operative guesses a word the spymaster wasn't thinking of, but it belongs to their team's color, does the guess count and is the spymaster allowed to say so?
    ANSWER
Yes. The guess counts and the word is covered normally regardless of whether the spymaster intended it. However, the spymaster must not reveal which words they had in mind once the turn ends.

  • Key card orientation is from the spymasters' perspectivecommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
How should the key card be oriented relative to the 5×5 grid of word cards?
    ANSWER
The key card is aligned from the spymasters' point of view. The top-left square on the key card corresponds to the top-left word card as seen by the spymasters. Imagine laying the key card flat toward the grid: it maps 1:1 with the word cards.

  • Using tone or volume when speaking the clue is illegalcommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
Can a spymaster shout (or otherwise alter delivery of) a clue word to hint at a word card that shares that property — e.g., shouting "CITY" to also hint at "Shout"?
    ANSWER
No. Per the Firm Rules section: "Your clue must be about the meaning of the words." Using tone, volume, or any manner of speaking as part of the hint is illegal — the clue must relate to the word's meaning only, not how it is spoken.
