  • Opposing one-way arrows impassable; teleportation ignores arrowsdesigner
    CONTEXT
Players were uncertain whether a tile path with two opposing one-way arrows could be crossed by movement or teleportation.
    RULING
"You can't walk through an arrow in the 'wrong' direction. A path with two opposing one-way arrows is impassable in both directions by normal movement. Teleportation ignores arrows entirely and can land you across an opposing-arrow path."

  • All players knocked out: nobody winsdesigner
    CONTEXT
When all players are knocked out in the depths, the rulebook says everyone scores 0 points. The question was whether the tiebreaker (most valuable artifact) is then invoked to determine a winner.
    RULING
"FWIW, if all players are knocked out, the intention is that nobody wins (except the dragon)."

Q&A8
  • Marble Guardian: tile surrounded, no adjacent placement possiblepublisherlinked official source
    QUESTION
When the Marble Guardian is defeated, where is the new tile placed if the current tile is completely surrounded and no adjacent placement is possible?
    ANSWER
You must take 2 gold instead of placing a tile. (From the official Dire Wolf FAQ, 14 Dec 2022, available at direwolfdigital.com/support under Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure.)

  • Card effects are mandatory unless they say "may"publisher
    QUESTION
Does the rulebook phrase "take the actions you wish" mean card-generated effects are also optional?
    ANSWER
"Actions you wish" refers only to environmental choices — you don't have to pick up artifacts, buy cards, or spend all your boots/skill/swords. Any actions generated by cards are mandatory, unless they say otherwise (for example, by saying "you may"). Exception: the Charlatan played as the last card with an empty hand cannot complete its discard requirement, since there are no cards left in hand to discard.

  • Tourmaline usable during any dragon attack, not just your own turncommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
Can Tourmaline be used to block ghost damage during a dragon attack that occurs on another player's turn?
    ANSWER
Yes. Tourmaline has no timing condition — it triggers on any ghost damage regardless of whose turn it is. Per rulebook page 12, you draw your next hand at the end of your turn, so your cards are always available for reactive plays between turns.

  • One Tourmaline required per ghost cube blockedcommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
If a dragon attack draws two ghost tokens, does one Tourmaline prevent all the damage?
    ANSWER
No. You need one Tourmaline per ghost cube blocked. One Tourmaline cannot cover multiple cubes from a single attack.

  • Starting tile is exempt from tile rotation effectscommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
If an adventure card instructs you to rotate a tile 180° with a player on it, does the starting tile also rotate?
    ANSWER
No. Rotation effects apply only to square tiles. The starting tile is rectangular and is exempt. Note: some localized editions omit the word "square" from the card text; the original English wording specifies square tiles only.

  • Must commit to a specific tunnel before drawing a new tilecommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
If a room has two exits leading off the edge of the board, must you choose which tunnel you're taking before revealing a new dungeon tile?
    ANSWER
Yes. Per rulebook page 9: "moving along the tunnel lets you discover what lies beyond" — you commit to a specific tunnel before drawing. If the drawn tile cannot be placed in a way that completes the move, you must still place it in a valid orientation and complete the movement.

  • Discarding a card from hand removes its effects and resourcescommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
If I discard a card from my hand using another card's ability, do I still get its skill, boots, swords, or other effects?
    ANSWER
No. Per rulebook page 11, discarding removes the card from your hand before it enters the play area. It does not have its normal effect, and none of its resource symbols (skill, boots, swords) are available.

  • Multiple copies of the same market item can be purchasedcommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
Can a player buy more than one Backpack? If so, can they pick up a third artifact?
    ANSWER
Yes. Unlike Clank! In! Space! and Clank! Legacy, Catacombs allows buying multiple copies of the same market item. A player with two Backpacks can pick up a total of three artifacts (one base + one per Backpack).

EDGE CASES1
  • Stumble cannot be trashed from hand to avoid its Clank effectcommunity high-engagement
    SITUATION
A player wants to avoid the +Clank from Stumble and considers using a trash effect on it before playing it.
    RULING
Trash effects in Catacombs only work from the play area or discard pile — not from your hand. To trash a Stumble you must first play it (adding it to the play area and triggering its +Clank). The only way to avoid Stumble's +Clank entirely is to discard it from your hand using another card's discard ability before you play it.
