Players asked whether ingredients should be drawn before or after seeing the turn order card or initial setup phase. Applies to both turn order selection and initial ingredient setup.

  • Two different negative potions on the same playerdesigner
    CONTEXT
The rulebook states "No negative potion can affect you twice." Question was whether this prevents two *different* negative potions from both affecting the same player.
    RULING
"If you drink two negative potions with different colors, you get affected by both of them. The 'No negative potion can affect you twice' applies only to two identical potions."

  • Boots of Speed on Custodian's imaginary action spacedesigner
    CONTEXT
The Custodian favor card creates a personal action space between Transmute and Sell Potion. Question was whether Boots of Speed (usable on any space except Sell Potion) applies to it.
    RULING
"Yes. The Custodian card literally creates an imaginary action space just for you, situated between Transmute and Sell potion action spaces. Boots can be used 'on any action space except Sell potion'. So this imaginary one also counts."

  • Boots of Speed when the placed cube was declineddesigner
    CONTEXT
A player placed a cube on an action space but chose not to use the action (declined/passed). Question was whether Boots of Speed could still be triggered from that space.
    RULING
"Yes. Boots say you can use it 'On an action space where you have at least one cube'. So it doesn't matter whether that cube was used or declined."

  • Boots of Speed during Publish Theory following a Debunkdesigner
    CONTEXT
When Debunking, the player's cube is removed from the Debunk space. Question was whether Boots' extra action could still be used during the Publish Theory step that immediately follows, even though the cube was removed during the Debunk.
    RULING
    "Yes."

  • Periscope: spied player does not learn which ingredient was seendesigner
    RULING
"The spied player does not know what ingredient was seen by the spying player. If someone uses Periscope on you, shuffle the ingredient cards face down, then pass them to the spying player. He looks at one and discards them both."

Q&A1
  • Element size irrelevant for hedging and scoringcommunity high-engagement
    QUESTION
Is the size of an alchemical element (large vs. small) relevant when hedging a seal or calculating scoring?
    ANSWER
No. Element size is irrelevant for hedging and scoring purposes — only the +/- sign matters. Size only becomes relevant when determining which alchemicals combine to produce which potions.

Catan — Roads & Building, p. 7

At the end of each round, the player with the most of the goal trait scores points equal to their amount; the player with the second most scores fewer.
