  • Rulebook "When Prepped" once-per-turn restriction is incorrectdesignerpublisher
    RULING
"'While prepped' effects should always tell you how many times they can be used per turn. If it's not specified, then it's any #" (Kevin Riley). The rulebook rule stating that each "When Prepped" effect can only be used once per turn is incorrect and will be removed in a future printing (Nick Little: "I'm not sure why that rule is in there… This rule will likely be removed in the next printing").

  • Wayward One mat revised in 2nd edition: unprepped spells count as misaligneddesignerpublisher
    RULING
"Wayward One has a special defense against any spell that is not aligned to it, so we had to be sure that every spell that wasn't aligned was misaligned." In the 2nd edition mat, all spells not prepped to an aligned breach — including Indira's spells cast from hand — count as misaligned and deal half damage against Wayward One. The 1st edition mat's wording left unprepped spells in an ambiguous neither-aligned-nor-misaligned state.

  • Unplayed cards stay in hand; unused Æther is lost at end of turndesigner
    RULING
"At the end of your turn, unplayed cards remain in your hand. Unused Æther is lost."

  • Focusing a breach and prepping a spell are two separate actionsdesignerpublisher
    CONTEXT
Players using Focusing Orb assumed focusing another player's breach also granted that player an immediate prep action.
    RULING
"When you focus a breach, you only rotate that breach. You do not get to prep a spell there automatically as that is a separate action." You can only prep spells to your own breaches during your own turn; focusing another player's breach does not grant them a free prep.

  • Kadir exception: recipient of a spell gift may prep it into their own breachdesignerpublisher
    CONTEXT
The general rule is that players may only prep spells to their own breaches. Kadir's ability gives spells to other players during her turn.
    RULING
"The exception comes with Kadir's special power which specifically states that the player can prep up to 2 of the spells they receive from the special power (in this case the specific power trumps the rule book)."

  • Adelheim's ability triggers only when a nemesis card is drawndesigner
    CONTEXT
Players asked whether Adelheim's ability could be used at any point during the nemesis turn rather than only at the moment a card is drawn.
    RULING
"You got it right. If his ability could be used anytime it'd probably need to cost quite a bit more." Adelheim's ability may only be activated at the exact moment a nemesis card is drawn — not at any later point during the nemesis turn.

  • Wildfire Whip can target itselfdesigner
    RULING
"Wildfire Whip can target itself as it is included in 'any player's prepped spells'. So, by spending 2 you can cast it immediately after prepping it."

  • When casting from another's breach, the spell returns to the breach owner's discard piledesigner
    CONTEXT
When a player casts a spell prepped in another player's breach (e.g. via Wildfire Whip), the rulebook's "put it in your discard pile" was ambiguous.
    RULING
"Indeed, it goes to the discard pile for whoever's breach it was prepped in. The 'you' is only the 'you' on the effects of the card."

  • All "you" effects on a spell apply to the active player, not the spell ownerdesignerpublisher
    CONTEXT
When casting a spell from another player's breach, it was unclear who benefits from effects like "Gain 1 Æther" where "you" is implied rather than written.
    RULING
"Yes. And excellent use of implied you." All spell effects — both explicit and implied "you" references — resolve for the active player (the one whose turn it is), not the spell's owner.

  • Phaedraxa's Auspex Rune prevents all damage to players and Gravehold that turndesigner
    CONTEXT
Players asked whether Auspex Rune required choosing to protect either "players" or "Gravehold," reading "or" as exclusive.
    RULING
"Raz is correct. all damage to players and/or gravehold is prevented that turn." The "or" in Phaedraxa's text is inclusive — all damage to both players AND Gravehold is prevented for the entire turn.

Q&A2
  • Spells cannot split their damage between multiple targetsdesignerpublisherlinked official source
    QUESTION
Can you split a spell's damage between a minion and the nemesis (e.g. 1 damage to finish a minion, 1 damage to the nemesis)?
    ANSWER
No. "On page 12 under 'When a spell is Cast:' the second bulletpoint is: 'That spell can only deal damage to a single minion or the nemesis unless otherwise noted.'" A spell's damage cannot be split between targets unless the card explicitly says so.

  • Four consecutive nemesis turns in a row are possibledesignerpublisher
    QUESTION
Since the turn order deck always has 2 nemesis cards, can both nemesis cards from one deck draw appear consecutively with both from the next, creating 4 nemesis turns in a row?
    ANSWER
Yes — "Indeed!" The turn order deck always contains exactly 2 nemesis cards, and they can appear at the end of one shuffle and the beginning of the next, resulting in 4 consecutive nemesis turns.
